IBM Rational Software Development Conference 2006: Confirmed!
Its official! I submitted two papers for the IBM Rational Software Development Conference that is being held from June 4 - 8, 2006 in Orlando, Florida. The two papers I submitted revolved around software development and software testing. The abstracts for the presentations I’ll be giving with a collegue of mine are below.
This will be the second major conference of the year, next to CASCON 2006 held in October. The best part about this is that we’ll be displaying the IBM Performance Optimization Toolkit (IPOT) at this conference, so we’re eager to get more feedback. Another bonus is that we’ll be staying at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort!
Abstract – Software Tester
Present the IBM Performance Optimization Toolkit (IPOT), which allows software developers and testers to effectively identify the root cause of performance problems in distributed applications. The toolkit integrates seamlessly with Rational Performance Tester (RPT), which simplifies test creation and load generation to help ensure that applications can scale to thousands of concurrent users. This presentation will explore how a tester identifies bottlenecks using RPT and then uses IPOT to identify the root cause of poor performance by correlating round-trip response time with statistical resource and transactional trace data in a distributed application. These features are enabled by leveraging the Eclipse Test and Performance Tools Platform (TPTP) using data collected by IBM Tivoli Composite Application Manager (ITCAM) and IBM Tivoli Monitoring (ITM). The operating environment and steps to configure the toolkit to collect statistical resource and transactional trace data will also be discussed in detail. A demonstration will illustrate how IPOT can be used to drive productivity and efficiency by helping to bridge gaps between the various stages of the IT life cycle
Abstract – Software Developer
Present the IBM Performance Optimization Toolkit (IPOT), which allows software developers and testers to effectively identify the root cause of performance problems in distributed J2EE applications. The toolkit integrates with Rational Application Developer (RAD), which allows a developer to quickly design, develop, analyze, test, profile and deploy Web Services and J2EE applications. This presentation will explore how a developer monitors a distributed transaction across application servers and then uses IPOT to identify bottlenecks through graphical views of these transactions. The developer will be able to diagnose the performance problem using the links provided between these views and the source code. This capability helps to accelerate problem determination in Development by sharing data collected in Test and Production with L3 support of large enterprises.
