Ashish Patel is a Software Architect and Development Lead working at the IBM Toronto Software Lab in Canada. He has over 7 years of industry experience in software architecture and development, 4 years of business development and entrepreneurial experience, and 2 years of research field experience.
Ashish participated in IBM’s premiere internship program, Extreme Blue, where he co-founded the IBM Performance Optimization Toolkit (IPOT) and IBM Problem Resolution Toolkit (IPRT). These toolkits are now fully integrated and sold a part of the IBM Rational Software portfolio. During the 12-week program, Patel had the opportunity to pitch to Sam Palmisano, CEO and Chairman of IBM, and Steven Mills, Senior Group Vice-President of IBM.
Ashish officially joined IBM Software Group in 2005 where he commercializes Eclipse-based software development and testing products for IBM. He is considered an expert in implementing and leveraging Open Group’s Application Response Measurement (ARM) standard to create business applications and developing Eclipse-based products. Patel is often publically visible at business and technology conferences and recruiting top-talent at post-secondary institutions across Canada.
Prior to joining IBM, Ashish founded a privately-held software development and consultancy firm called BlueShift Innovations Inc. Patel was appointed the President and Chairman of the corporation, which he operated for 4 years. BlueShift Innovations Inc. is a company founded on principles of open computing and is proud to use open source as the foundation of various offerings. The company is a primary consumer of PHP, PostgreSQL, and XML technologies for developing web-based solutions for businesses. In addition, the corporation has built enterprise solutions using Java2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) and Web Services.
Ashish has graduated with a B.S.c. in Computer Engineering in the Cooperative Education program with Distinction from the University of Alberta in 2005. During his undergraduate degree, he received two NSERC Scholarships and numerous Faculty of Engineering Dean’s Research Awards for his research work – in addition, to various leadership scholarships. He also created software-based business solutions for one of the largest integrated petroleum companies in the world, Shell Canada Ltd., and one of Canada’s top providers of energy, EPCOR Corporation.
He competes in business venture and computer programming competitions, and is a dedicated volunteer to his community. He has contributed hundreds hours of service to the Cross Cancer Institute, University of Alberta, and various professional associations, such as, APPEGA. Ashish enjoys playing hockey, mountain biking, and remixing music in his spare time.
